Code of Ethics
In order to promote the highest standards of professional conduct and foster constructive relationships between creators and those that do business with them, this code of ethics represents the standards by which each member will be held accountable, and to which each member agrees upon joining the Creators Guild of America. This code of ethics applies to all guild members, in all venues, whether physical or virtual.
Deal honestly. Be truthful and transparent about your work, skills, and experiences. Be transparent in your expectations. If you don't understand something, ask for clarification. It is better not to answer a question than give a deceptive response.
Be professional. Meet your deadlines when you've been hired, or when hiring others. Ensure that any terms you set or agree to are specific and realistic. Acknowledge potential conflicts and exercise appropriate restraint in their resolution. Be respectful of brands and employers, whether you are accepting a deal or (especially) if you are declining one.
Respect others. Treat those you work with as you wish to be treated. Refrain from harassment and discrimination, including unwelcome sexual advances, derogatory remarks, inappropriate or purposely inflammatory jokes, texts, email messages or social media posts. CGA members are ambassadors for this profession; be aware of how your words and actions affect other people.
Include everybody. Ensure your workplace is safe and constructive for employees and collaborators of different genders, ethnicities, orientations, beliefs and nationalities. Treat a diversity of backgrounds and skills as an asset. Embrace common values while respecting differences.
Play by the rules. Ensure that your content, conduct and work is in compliance with any relevant platform or contract’s terms and conditions, as well as relevant FTC guidelines. Do not spread misinformation, steal data, abuse, spam, hack or dox any individual or organization. Make certain that all of your internal business practices comply with appropriate federal, state and local laws.
Credit work. Acknowledge the work of others where it is distinct from your own. Do not claim or post another’s content as your own. Attribute AI-generated content when and where appropriate.
Respect the guild. Do not engage in outside business, professional or other activities that would directly or indirectly adversely affect the material interests or reputation of the CGA. Utilize the name and trademarks of the CGA appropriately. Uphold the reputation of our profession at all times and seek to resolve disagreements amicably and internally.
