SBA 101

by Creators Guild of America

On October 15, 2026 the U.S. Small Business Administration said, for the first time, that qualifying content creators belong under NAICS 5121, Motion Picture and Video Industries, for SBA program eligibility. This course explains what that means and what it does not, how to find the six-digit code that fits your business, what the SBA and its lenders require, how the microloan and 7(a) programs work, where the free help is, and how federal contracting fits in if you ever want it. Chapters 1 and 2 are the definition and the background. Chapters 3 to 5 are how to use it.

Education, not legal advice

This course is educational. It is not legal, tax, or financial advice. For your specific situation, consult a licensed professional. Completing this course does not qualify you for any SBA program. Eligibility is decided by the SBA and its lenders on your application.

Here’s how CGA Certifications create value for you and your business.

Professional Knowledge

Short, free courses built by the Guild on the subjects every working creator needs: credits, contracts, FTC disclosure, and AI. Each one takes about twenty minutes and ends with a final exam. Pass it and the certification is yours.

On Your Mosaic

Every certification you earn appears on your public Mosaic with its own Certification ID. Brands, agencies, and collaborators can confirm it in one click. It is not a badge you claim. It is a credential that checks out.

Brand Ready

A certified creator walks into a brand conversation already knowing how disclosure works, what a contract should say, and where the risks are. That saves the brand a training call and tells them you take the work seriously before anyone says a word.

Brand Certifications (coming soon)

Verified Brands publish their own courses inside Mosaic, covering how to represent them, what to say, and what to avoid. Complete one and you carry that brand’s certification on your profile, which puts you on the shortlist when they hire.

Always Current

Certifications carry an expiry and are refreshed as the rules change. FTC guidance moves, contract norms move, AI moves. A current certification tells brands your knowledge is current too.

by the CGA

Course content is written and maintained by CGA, the standards body for the profession, not a third-party vendor. When the industry asks what a professional creator should know, this is the answer, and you have it on your record.
